The Importance of Memory
Arrheno Funez died in 1889 of a pulmonary congestion. Borges memorializes this person and saying he is the only person on earth who is worthy of the word memory right. And yet this person's life is nothing. It's an accumulation of pain that amounts to nothing. He achieved nothing. His presence on earth did not progress humanity in any way. In Garden of Fourteenth PathsNothing comes from it except for Borges the characters appreciation which he admits is of a faulty memory. As a podcaster with over 300 episodes under my belt I can really relate to this fear.
