What Kind of Discipline Did Scolante Have?

The school went from being a very unruly place where gangs were rife and all over the place in fact controlling parts of the campus. Although discipline wasn't perhaps the best in the country that's not something I actually know from reading this how well it went with discipline or what exactly was the end result. But we do know that it was disciplined enough that students could learn normally and that it had a high high percentage or a high proportion of people interested in mathematics  and taking these higher mathematics courses. So there are two different approaches taken to this and they reflect to my mind to broadly speaking two different ways of thinking about psychology or about how you should approach discipline in schools.
