The idea that we're searching for happiness outside ourselves in events, circumstances, things, money, relationships, bodies, it just runs all through the course. It's ultimately a quest without an ending because the ego's mandate is seek, but do not find. The course is quite denigrating about the desire to get more possessions and other trivial symbols.
