Getting to the Scale of the Human Brain

Any kind of hardware neuron is almost certainly going to be much bigger than that if it is of comparable complexity, even whether it's based on silicon transistors. And the same is true if we're trying to use light for communication. So in order to get to the scale of the human brain, you're going to have to also use the third dimension: entire wafers need to be stacked on top of each other with fiber optic communication between them. That's when you can get to some 10 billion neurons like your human brain.
