The Ten Commandments Are Not for Our Good, but for Ourselves
In both the jewish and christian traditions, there's a conviction that god's commands are given for our good. This is another way that the ten commandments or very clearly assume the cultural setting that israel was in in its ancient context. And so that's what i'm trying to play out here, is that the logic underneath these commands is actually about honoring the dignity and vocation that god has given to humans in the world.
