Parallelism in Proverbs
The proverbs of this book are poetic and usually have a terser form in hebrew than they do in translation. They often are formed using parallelism. There are two statements held next to each other that are paralleled in some way. The literary form of the proverb is not superfluous, it's part of the means by which the proverb makes its meaning.
