You will not get what you want by allowing a the external to guide you and reacting to what is outside of you. When you are living in that th reactive state, it's like a, you're actually feeling like you've already lost soming. And this kind of like subconscious state of needing to not disappoint others is a great quality, but it needs to be kept in check. Sometimes it becomes our base line for in order to be ok, i need to be making sure constantly that these other people are happy, so that they love me.
