Arithan: How long should the long run be? This is a question that's been around for a long time and it's talked about quite a lot. I personally don't think there's much benefit in doing just from a purely physical point of view, doing runs that are much longer than about five hours. Jack Daniels didn't think it was worth doing much more than two and a half hours but also he was training marathoners so they generally weren't running much longer than that anyway.
