The Origins of Deadlisting

The first scientific article ever published on the environmental toll of road traffic was written by Dayton and Lillian stoner in 1926. It sparked an interesting surge in interest in counting dead things, which is now called deadlisting. Redheaded woodpeckers were the most frequently recorded species that they found along the roadside; today it's quite a scarce species.
