Montesquo, the grizzled soldier who had been on the fence about the whole endeavor, was finally convinced. He would join Geralimo, Salviatti, and Francesco Pazzi in their assassination plot. This attempt to assassinate two men would lead to more than 80 deaths. Weeks of bloodshed that would eventually give rise to the entire city government being excommunicated.
