Avicenna's Autobiography

In his autobiography Avicenna presents himself as a self-made man. Do you buy that? Is that basically right, do you think? There was no bad school in Bukhara's school. But maybe they didn't have the same kind of institutionalization of philosophy. So he certainly had teachers and he certainly had people from whom he learned but he surpassed the level of his teachers very quickly.
