Austin Butler's Life as an Actor
Austin Butler was cast in the role of Elvis Presley after auditioning for Baz Lerman's film. The actor would spend three years researching and recreating some iconic moments from his life, including a 1968 comeback special. He'd also been working with Denzel Washington who vouched for him as part of the casting process. It became clear early on that they were going to shoot it in Australia, rather than Hollywood like had once been envisaged. Tom Hanks contracted COVID six weeks before filming began; he tested positive at Cayman News but didn't end up shooting until March 2020.
