The cultural and political debates around representation are often really clear examples of daily capture of identity politics. The people who came up with identity politics were socialists, socialy irit right? So they at least thought that it was a compatible thought with their broader commitment to materialism. But i think this way of looking at things is a little too invested in the idea of fundamentality.
