Human rights activists estimate at least 473 protesters have been killed. Research for the BBC's 100 women's seasons identified more than 75 of those who've been killed. The security forces have opened indiscriminate fire on unarmed protesters, killing even children as young as seven. Iran's ethnic minorities, as always, have taken the brunt of state violence in response to protests.
