The History of Tea
Chinese history says that over 5,000 years ago, Chinese emperor Shennong discovered tea. Stories say a dry leaf from the tea plant fell into his cup of hot water. This was the first cup of tea and it became very popular in China. In Japan, people developed special ceremonies to serve tea. It had not yet travelled anywhere else in the world.
