I was born in Jamaica and lived there till I was 13 years old. My school was surrounded by three very vibrant cinemas that played, you know, an indiscriminate Schmarter's board or menu of movies. By the time I graduated at 21, I knew that I wanted to be a director and wanted to try and make my way to America. But I had no money. And it was hard then as it is now to immigrate under those circumstances. So I cobbled together enough money and got on a plane promptly wound up in public housing in Toronto,. but started working as a PA at a commercial production house.
