The Relationship Between Mating Competition and Body Dissatisfaction
In a female skewed sex ratio, there are more women of reproductive age in the population relative to men. This means competition to secure a mate is going to be more intense. And so if this is something that potential mates are going to scrutinize and weight is one, it's perceived to be more controllable aspect of our appearance, then you might predict then that women are going to feel worse about their bodies than they otherwise would have been.
