Chaturhuyuk, a Crowded, Permanent Place in Anatolia
Chaturhuyuk is one of the earliest large settlements in human history. People climbed wooden ladders to rooftop pathways, clambering along the tops of buildings from level to level and tier to tier. This was not a short-term settlement, the kind of agglomeration that presumably accompanied the regular gatherings of Gubecklitepe for centuries. It would have been impossible to have that many people living together for so long if they didn't have some sense of how life was supposed to be structured and lived.
