He admitted to police that he kept hatchets and knives on him, like in his saddle bag. He also revealed at this point to the police how much he loved knives and hatchets. Forensic tests showed large quantities of blood on crepes they were wearing when there was a small amount of blood on their shoes. The victim's ex-boyfriend had dated Barbara Songhurst's brother Danny who came to her defense after she was accused of murder.
