The Role of Racial Capitalism in South Africa

The term racial capitalism emerged in the context of the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa in the 1970s. Nable Alexander was a key person introducing the term and spent many years in prison under apartheid, Bernard McBarnay, Harold Wollpei, Martin the Gasset. And these people basically came to understand apartheid as a system of racial capitalism that was driven by the need to maintain this cheap labor force. It's hard to imagine being overthrown by white workers with black workers' interests at least in the short Term.
