How Much Rent Is in Australia?

The proportion of renters in Australia has steadily increased over the last couple of decades. Back in 1996, around 27% of households were renters; that's now 30.6%. Most Australians renting are renting from a private landlord who usually has an investment property. In September 2020, according to SQM Research, the average weekly rent across houses and across units was $417. Two years later in September 2022, the averageweekly rent in Australia was $527. That's a big jump, $110 a week.
