i filled dozens of note books, some of which were destroyed or rendered illegible by the environments in which i carried them. And that somehow felt just right good. That's the shadow archive underland. So we our landscapes are formed of strata of memory and association as well as soil and rock. I think mountains reallyte they're the best example of this. Three, three, four hundred years ago there. They're undesirable, as we've said, and then an aesthetic and an cultural revolution curs, and suddenly they become fetish objects people are literally dying to climb....
