The Role of REM Sleep in Ocean Mammals

Dolphins and fur seals don't seem to exhibit any REM sleep. Fur seals may exhibit one to 10 seconds of REM sleep at a time. It seems like maybe that unihemispheric sleep is sort of replacing in some way the needs of REM sleep. But it sounds like we need to do more in the wild in order to better understand what happens at different depths for these animals.
