In China, the service people still get quite decent wage out of what they do. A tip should be something that someone gives someone because "you did an outstanding job way above the call of duty" Instead, everyone just is automatically required a tip, which does not show any gratuity or graciousness. If you pay under 10% or lower than 10%, you will probably get chased by restaurant owner to ask you to pay more.
