Doctor, You Can't Keep Saying You're a Doctor.
Harry Hoxsey's dad was not a doctor, but got to keep pretending to be a veterinary doctor because he'd been doing it for so long. His license to practice pet medicine was granted under the Grandfather Clause of the Illinois Medical Practice Act of 1877. In 1877, Illinois was like, there's too many people saying these doctors, it ain't doctors. And now if you're going to say you're a doctor, you got to have a medical license.
