Introduction
Joshua Weilersthine is the Music Director of the Phoenix Orchestra of Boston. This week, he talks about Shostakovich's 5th Symphony. The piece was inspired by a real political event which personally ensnare in composer and his family. There are no shortage of opinions about the symphony but interestingly enough, these opinions tend to focus on the final 4 or 5 minutes of the piece rather than the other movements.
