The Role of Race in Othello
If you want a version of Othello where race is not important have a look at Welles film. Most critics most current critics have been most comfortable in arguing that the play interrogates racism okay so it's about racism rather than being racist okay. Against that though we might place the plays strangely voyeuristic preoccupation with Othello and Desdemona's sex life from that vivid image of the black ram to the final scene in the couple's wedding sheets not particularly easy prop to maneuver in the early modern theatreso must be important must be worthwhile to bring out.
