And we know that cumulative stress is like the compounding effectsi you know, if youe pumped a little bit of air into a two leader and sealed it, that little bit of air is probably not going to change the composition of that bottle to too much. So that's kind of like a transient effect of stress. But if you continue to pump air, pump air, pump air, pump air, without kind of like any type of buffer, if you will, then what ends up happening? Well, it changes its composition until finally, at some point it's going to explode, like it is actually going to combust. So we know that cumulative stress is going to be extremely negatively detrimental. So what these resear ers were looking to do they took a cohort of over 400 nd forty individuals, o 400 forty, four individuals, ages 18 to 50, and they were examining a couple of things. They were examining psychological measures related to cumulative stress. And so they utilized what was called the cumulative adversity inventory, which was kind of based, it's basically a subjective stress measure that's asking people about major stress events, their overall, kind ofe total exposure to stress, and we're obviously talking about psychological stress. I should confirm that that's what we're doing. And gives it kind of this total score. It's got a very high reliability and validity. They were looking at things like emotional regulation. So how well was the individual able to regulate their emotional response when they did encounter the stimuli that are stressers? And their hypothesis was that individuals who were able to emotionally regulate higher than other individuals who had maybe not so great mechanism for emotional regulation, had more of a buffer towards epi genetic aging than those who didn't. They also looked at self control.
