The Origins of the Term "Boot List"
Bucket list was first used in print in 2006, according to Miriam Webster's Time Traveler. An etymologist for Oxford University's blog has declared the origin of kick the bucket officially unknown. It is possible that someone before screenwriter Justin Zacham really did call their list of things to do before they kicked the bucket a bucket list. Maybe this is just another example of the Mandel Effect at play here.
