The Ramesses Temple Complex

Ramesses' temple complex in Theban Necropolis was probably the work of his father himself. Ramesses a memorial temple dedicated to Ramesses near Thebes is particularly prominent. Even further south at the second cataract of the Nile Ramesses constructed two huge temples cut into a solid rock cliff called Abu Simbel. They are notable for their 20 metre tall colossi of Ramesses himself sitting regally over the entrance as well as other colossi also carved into the rock. Interestingly though it has been difficult for historians to pinpoint a date of construction for these temples. Some have suggested it was during the 1260s which would have been within the lifetime of Nefertari.
