CHAPTER

The Scottish Nationalists and the English Working Class

The alienation of Scottish voters that drives them to the Scottish National Party is mirrored by the alienation of voters within England towards Westminster. So, it seems as if everybody is kind of just alienated in some way and displacing their sense of where sovereignty should reside or where authority legitimately exists somewhere else. And you have this paradox, like I say, whereby the thing that actually unites Scottish and English voters is their shared hostility to the centre of national power in Westminster.
