"The most tragic and heartbreaking part of the piece is uh you you're finally intercepted by the cenaphort um panamanian authorities," she says. "They turn the migrants back and say you can't answer you gotta you gotta turn around yeah that was brutal i mean after all that, they were being held at gunpoint." The group eventually made it to a base where officials told them there was nothing they could do for them. They were then escorted 30 minutes or so back up the trail but left to their own devices.
