The Supreme Court's Opposition to Proposition 209
In 1996 proposition 209 was passed in a voter initiative and it effectively removed the use of affirmative action in higher education admissions decisions but also in hiring. There are lots of places where outside of admissions where questions about race or gender, genders among the protected categories would come up. It's unclear from this decision whether there is any sort of long tail beyond what it says about the admissions process.
