The English Intelligencier

In left wing circles, it is always felt that there is something slightly disgraceful in being an englishman. The great british writer, george orwell summed it up well in a 19 forty one pamphlet entitled the lion and the unicorn england. He wrote perhaps the only great country whose intellectuals are ashamed of their own nationality. This attitude so pervaded the intelligencier that many openly mock signs of englishness. Because they know so little of their own country and their fellow countrymen and women, they have created an atmosphere in which ordinary people feel they cannot express their patriotism for fear of being ridiculed,. or worse.
