Are There Neutral Currents?

Back in the early 19 seventies, how do weak interactions happen? There was a thing called the intermediate vector bozon hypothesis. It said that just like there are photons exchanged to make electromagnetic forces, so there are intermediate vector bozons exchanged to make weak forces. And somehow one had to account for the fact that, well, it's just like the photon that has a mass a huge mass. Then eventually along came the so called weimberg salaam model, which became the stande model of qualical pisits.
