Mike Birbiglia: Monologues are a dying art in film and television because audiences are intentionally conditioned to demand new input in much shorter intervals. "I love watching a good actor deliver something that transports me out of where I'm at, makes me ignore what's in the frame" He says he has seen people tattoo parts of them on their bodies. The process of writing them is meditative; every monologue you see in anything I've done was twice as long when I started.
