The Treaty of Presburg - The German Confederation
The holy roman empire was the main structure through which austrian influence flowed into germany. By undermining the empire, napoleon was both weakening austria and creating an opening for increased french influence. The treaty guaranteed full sovereignty for bavaria, baden and wurtemberg. This term is not defined in the treaty and could easily be read to imply total independence from the holy rRoman empire.
