The Paradox of Brexit
UKIP were basically very similar to other kind of radical right groups or, you know, populist rights. They were directly responding to demographic change. That was the overwhelming issue for the voters. But they kind of managed to package it as a sort of Euroskeptic thing. Since then, EU countries have become much more hard-line and immigration is an issue. Italy and Sweden now have populist right governments. I mean, obviously Britain is probably never going to return to the EU because it will be too complicated,. but it will probably align itself so closely with Labour that it will be effectively a member in many ways.
