The Importance of Failure in Science

I love those stories of where errors lead you to new things and new ideas. I do think in science we shy away a little bit from that or we like to sort of cover it up. In digging into the history of these experiments which were so critical in understanding particle physics I did discover that there was probably more failure than even I expected. As an experimentalist myself I've just come to accept that I often don't fully know what I'm doing because no one has ever tried to do it before.
