The idea of taking a pill each day to prevent malaria dates back to at least the 17 hundreds. The bark of the sancona tree contains quinine, and that was discovered used very early by people sort of like, as you know, indigenous people in folk medicine. And then eventually, within the next hundred years, you see people taking this bark daily if they're in areas where you might get malaria. So the idea of using something every day to try to prevent you from catching something well established. It's very logical, right? And we do that to this day for malaria.
