The Risks of Persistent Eustachian Tube Dysfunction
The most concrete common indication for tubes is an extended period of time with signs of persistent eustachian tube dysfunction. In the short term, we're a little bit worried about recurrent ear infections but that's not a reason to be preemptive and put tubes in. The overall incidence of pediatricians having to make a decision about treating otitis media hasn't radically changed.
