The End of the French Revolution

In the late summer of 17 nine, the french republic appeared to be facing a crisis not seen since the dark days of 17 93. A defacto leve on mass had been declared. Nobles and emigreys faced summary persecution. But by the end of the year, the directory would be overthrown, just not by radical revolutionaries, but rather a cliqu of authoritarians who believed the way forward was not liberty and democracy, but power and order.
