How to Start a Statin for Primary Prevention

USPSTF does recommend selectively offering a statin medication. Patients who have LDL levels greater than 190 mg per deciliter or known familial hypercholesterolemia are at greatest risk for cardiovascular disease and a statin is recommended. For adults aged 76 years or older, there's insufficient evidence to recommend for or against initiating a statin.
