Jung's exploration of individuation is this idea of fundamentally becoming yourself. It doesn't mean to be an individual as separate from society in physical ways, it means to pull one's own consciousness out of the swaying and the just beingness of existence. In encountering his shadow and encountering his lowest self, he becomes more of himself in the end.
