With our first baby, we quickly discovered that we didn't think we were going to be comfortable giving birth in a hospital unless it was some form of emergency situation. The reason is because the hospitals are very, very structured in what they require a mother to do and how they approach things. Once you go into the hospital, you pretty much lose a lot of choice. You don't have much of a choice about whether they strap something to your belly or not.
