Herodotus's War on the Greek Islands

In 500 BC, the island of Naxos was in a state of internal strife and their aristocrats fled to Meledus. Erstagoras enlisted the support of Art of Faranese, the Persian Seitrap and Sardis, who was also the brother of Darius. The expedition quickly descended into a debacle, as they found themselves at increasing odds with Megabedus. He decided to recoup his position by latching onto the Malaysians' failing fortunes and inciting them to revolt. Seeing that everyone had made up their minds, Didema tried to give him good counsel but failed.
