Cyrus and Xenophon's Hellenica
According to Stesius and Plutarch, 9,000 casualties were reported to Artaxerxes. Cyrus' Asiatic forces are unaccounted for, but Xenophon only reports two losses among the Greek mercenaries. It is tempting to speculate on what would have happened had Cyrus stayed alive and won at Kanaxa. But this speculation is affected heavily by Xenophon's praise that heaps on Cyrus.
