The Higgs boson implies the existence of the Higgs field, which is an energy field that's throughout all of space. The Large Hadron Collider excited a particle out of that energy field and created new particles. In the very, very early universe, the HiggsField had a different value than it does today. And then there was an event called symmetry breaking where the Field took on a different value.
