The Importance of Confucianism in the Cultural Revolution
Mao was a great believer in hierarchy, and not at all in the sort of democratic principles. He just decided everything had to be one political wrecked voice - that went against Confucianism. Mao's idea of what China should be like may have been more than colored by Marxism. The effort single-handedly to transform China and the effects of failure on him personally bear an uncanny echo of earlier problems trying to act as a sage and single-handedly transform a whole society.
