The Difference Between Old and New Rhetoric in Persuasion and Identification
Jim Boulden: I was thinking, and I was sort of anticipating your comments in the Bonhoeffer chapter on the difference between the old rhetoric and the new rhetoric. He says people are not necessarily interested in being persuaded as much as they're looking to identify with someone. "Part of what the rhetorical tradition offers us is a way to analyze the ways that we're being persuaded both consciously and unconsciously," he says.
